Jessica Schulman & Steve Roman

Our Story

How we met---
If you know us, you probably know the crazy story. We worked together at the same summer camp when we were about 16. We had some mutual friends but we never really spoke. Steve thought I was a 'flower child' and extremely wierd... I thought he was afraid of girls because he was sooooo quite and never spoke around me....At one point, my baby brother (7 at the time) told Steve, "I think my big sister has a crush on you!"...Thank you Aaron! Years later, while Steve was working at Best Buy, I came in to buy a computer since I would be going away to college. New Paltz to be exact. We spoke briefly and I found out that Steve was going be commuting to the same school. (I would be dorming) About a year or two later, I was in the cafateria at NP and bumped into Steve who was on line behind me for lunch. Since I was on a meal plan (thanx mom!) and Steve was a commuter who had to pay cash, I offered to "buy" him lunch (it wasn't my money anyway)...and then he sat with my girls since it was like the only open table, lol, gotta love the SUB. When he left, my girls (Beanie) were like, wow, who the hell was that, he's hot. I was like, I know....just some kid I know from back home. We never spoke again. Flash foward like two more years. I had just gone through an awful break up and was dragged to a bar by some friends (shout out to Adam) I was left all alone at one point (ADAM) standing by the door with two beers, one in each hand...I was a mess, a hot mess...(again, thank you Adam!!!!) Steve walked by me and delivered his killer famous pick up line..." Hey....um, are you still with that guy!?" I had never been so happy to say no to that! (btw, I'm pretty sure if my answer had been YES, Steve would have kept right on walking without hesitation) We exchanged info, bla bla bla....a few weeks later we decided to go to a random movie on a Wednesday night: SAW ONE. It had been established that we were going to the movies just as friends....the rest is history! ( and I am pretty sure SAW SEVEN is in the making, lol)

Our Wedding

How we got engaged (12/21/08)---
The picking of the ring was a team effort! I picked it out and Steve paid for it....but it had to be sized so I had no idea when he actually had gotten it! Channukah 2008...we went to my mom's....He apparently asked my mom that morning when we got in and I was unloading gifts out of the car with my little brother. He told my mom he had the ring and wanted to propose while I was opening my gifts later that night. My family is the most important thing in my life and Steve wanted to make them a part of this moment! However, he told my mom all the details at about 11 AM and I spent the whole day with her...just me and my mom, lol.....my mom sucks at keeping stuff from me, and she was weird all day, very jumpy, and a little snappy too....but actually somehow kept this surprise to herself and didn't let on to anything. It was a funny day: Bottom line, I was the last to open my gifts after dinner, it was about 9 PM (my poor mom!) I turned around to say thank you to my brother for something and when I turned back, Steve was on one knee (sort of) with MY RING!! I didn't even know he had it on him...ALL DAY, lol. He was soooo nervous and barely got out the words "will you marry me?" It was really one word all slured together, so I leaned in very close to him and said "that's it?!" From accross the living room i hear my mom shout "JESSICA SARAH, ANSWER THE POOR BOY" and of course I said YES.. I didn't really need some long beautiful speech, lol. It was perfect just the way it happened!

A Special Message From Us

Meant to be: I pass Ravello's every time I drive to my mom's...and I have always said...I'm going to get married there! So when the time came, we decided to check it out. Turns out, the man in charge (Domenick) lives in New City and commutes to East Hanover. Coicidence number ONE. Steve and I have NO idea about a date so Dom asks us "Do you have a day in mind?" So we both say we'd prefer a Friday (dunno why). Dom asks us "Do you have a month, or a season?" We both say we like Fall....so Dom suggests October cause that seems to be a big Wedding Month. We say that sounds good. Dom looks at his scheduling book and says he only has two available Fridays, the first one being October 15th......My Dad's Birthday! So of course Steve looks at me and says, if that day is really special to you, let's go with it! So we are getting married on my Dad's Birthday! (which by coincdence is also my Aunt Michele's Birhtday) Coincidence number TWO. Ready for the Big one? While signing the contract for Ravello's for October 15th...Dom writes down my name and looks at me after I say Schulman and to my mom asks..."Where did you grow up?" My mom says the Bronx...which she did, technically...now it comes time for my mom to sign the contract, lol, and Dom looks at her Full name and the following conversation takes place. Dom:"I'm sorry, Linda. I didn't quite know how to ask, but I can't let you guys leave...I just have to ask...your husband....." Mom:"Oh, I'm sorry, my husband passed away some time ago..." Dom:" I know, Marshall Schulman..." At this point my mother and I are frozen. Poor Steve didn't know who to get first, my mom looked like she was gonna pass out and I was just shocked! Mom:" But how....how did u know that...." Dom: "I used to work for him about 12 years ago at Lederlee...Marshall was my boss for about a year!" There was not much else to say after that....we were all pretty much taken back by what just happened....so although my father has never actually met Steve, I do believe I have his blessing and I know he is with me always, in the strangest ways!! COINCINDENCE NUMBER THREE.
